Advanced manufacturers are transforming their business models under the principles of circular economy. The circular economy model moves from the traditional take-make-waste practice and aims to keep materials, components, products and waste useful and valuable at all phases. It is a continuous development cycle that supports environmental protection, continuous innovation and business growth. The expanding worldwide demand for electronics is providing tremendous growth opportunities for electronics manufacturers. But this huge potential comes with pressing environmental, health and safety (EHS) challenges. Electronics manufacturing is a global sector with an extremely complex supply chain. It gathers designers, material, component and equipment suppliers, chip manufacturers and system integrators. Against this background, the European Union and other jurisdictions are putting in force comprehensive EHS regulations. How can a manufacturer incorporate circular economy principles and at the same time increase its competitiveness? Circular economy requires the electronics manufacturing supply chain to connect, collaborate and innovate more than ever. The session will shed light upon the EHS challenges facing the electronics manufacturing sector and draw paths of policy and business action for the future.
